Altamira Hotel has a strategic position to reach some mystical places in Abruzzo, as Lanciano, well-known thanks to Eucharist Miracle. In the VII century, a monk was doubtful about the real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. While saying a Mass, the bread turned into flesh and the wine into blood inside St. Legonziano’s Church. Also Ortona is interesting from the religious point of view because it preserves St. Thomas relics inside the main basilica.
Abruzzo is also the region where tasting many typical genuine dishes, especially recipes for mutton. “Arrosticini” are a symbol in cookery of Abruzzo, they are made of mutton and are rigorously barbecued.
Orsogna has several typical tasty dishes, as “casce e ove” (meatball made with eggs and cheese), “pizz’ e ffuje” (kind of pizza with vegetables), “bocconotti” (kind of filled pastry).
Abruzzo has also a great variety of wines, perfectly combined to typical flavours of the region.
